Has a variable frequency drive (VFD) failed on your machinery?
This can happen for a multitude of reasons
- Heat: The leading cause of VFD failure. Poor ventilation, clogged filters, and overly warm environment with improper cooling can lead to a reduced lifespan or failure
- Contamination: Dust, oil and dirt build-up causing shorts and component degradation
- Undersized: Using a VFD that is too small for the application will likely cause immediate failure or a reduced lifespan
- Incorrect installation: Ensuring proper protection, installation, and the start-up of your drive is vital for the longevity of your VFDs life
- Age: Not all drives are made equal. Life expectancy of a VFD on average is 7-10 years. However a high quality VFD that is properly sized, installed and maintained may last 15+ years. Alternatively a cheap VFD may only last a few years
